Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba has set group stage qualification to the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League as his primary objective for the coming season.
Zesco return to continental football in the 2021/2022 season after failing to qualify for 2020/2021 edition.
It was the first time since 2012 that Zesco had failed to secure an African spot.
The defending FAZ Super League champions finished outside the top four qualification spots at number five in the 2019/2020 season that was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Firstly, we have to set our sights on getting to the group stage of the CAF Champions League. That’s our primary objective thereafter it will be easy for us now to set our eyes on getting further into the competition,” Numba told Zesco media.
Zesco are Zambia’s most successful league phase campaigns and have made four successive group stage appearances since 2016.
The highlight of that good run saw Zesco reach 2016 CAF champions League semifinals and the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
Zesco will know their fate in this season CAF Champions League on August 15 when the CAF Inter-club draws are made in Cairo.
