Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane has sung the praises of South African striker Percy Tau, with the player being strongly linked with a move to the Egyptian giants.

Tau, 27, looks unsettled at Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion and has entered the final year of his contract.

Mosimane has been hinting at a signing from South Africa for several weeks and Tau appears to fit the bill perfectly, having established himself as a star under the coach’s guidance at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Bafana Bafana forward will not come cheap for the reigning African champions, but Mosimane appears optimistic that a deal can be struck and has backed Tau to thrive in the famous red of Ahly.

“Percy loves to play football. He will have to decide whether or not he wants to join us, but we also have to consider the financial side,” Mosimane told an Instagram Live session, as quoted by King Fut.

“He’s 28 [he is in fact 27] now and he should show the world what he can do as he doesn’t get playtime where he is now. Any coach in Africa would want Tau in his team.

“He should come to play with the team that participates in the FIFA Club World Cup and come face to face with enormous teams like Bayern Munich.

“Tau is like Messi, he has a lot to show. He can do new things every week and if possible, I’d like him to join us from Brighton, if we can afford it of course.”

Tau’s possible arrival has increased in likelihood given the news of imminent departures for Walter Bwalya (DR Congo) and Aliou Dieng (Mali) from Al Ahly, meaning two spaces to open up for more foreign players to join the squad as per the Egyptian FA’s regulations.
