Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba says expectations are high following the signing on Tuesday of towering South Sudan international defender Peter Munyang.

The 27-year-old South Sudan national team captain has joined the Zambian champions on a two-year deal.

Numba said he is hoping Munyang would add valuable depth to Zesco’s continental push in the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League campaign that kicks off on September 11 with a preliminary round tie away to Royal Leopards of Eswatini.

“We are happy that the club has secured the services of Manyang. This is a chance for us to fill the void in defence,” Numba told Zesco media.

“He will help us consolidate our defence as we prepare for the new season. Our only hope is that he performs to our expectations.”

Munyang is Zesco’s third pre-2021/2022 season arrival joining winger Edward Lungu from Kitwe United and midfielder Dickson Chapa from Napsa Stars.

The defender fills Zesco’s backline void following the departures of Marcel Kalonda for FAZ Super League side Kabwe Warriors and Mwila Phiri who has joined promoted South Africa PSL club Sekhukhune United.
