Coach Beston Chambeshi is hoping for a very positive start to Chipolopolo’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifying campaign in September’s away fixture against Mauritania.
Chipolopolo face Mauritania in their opening Group B match on September 3 at Stade Municipal in Nouadhibou in what will be Chambeshi’s first game in charge.
Chambeshi has been handed interim reins for Chipolopolo’s grueling six-game Group B qualifiers that end this November following July’s departure of Serbian-born Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic after seventeen months in charge.
“You know it is an away game and we have to be very cautious. My colleagues and I have a plan not to expose ourselves,” Chambeshi said.
Chambeshi added that he was well aware of the pressures on his bench to do well as the cloud of Chipolopolo’s failure to qualify for the last three AFCON’s hangs over their heads.
“A win will be a bonus for us but we have to be cautious. We are trying to make things easy and accurate in terms of our preparations for our game,” Chambeshi said.
“But all I can say is we have to go there and do better. We all know a point away from home is better but a win will be a bonus for us.”
Chipolopolo are chasing their first away win in a FIFA World Cup qualifier since September 5, 2017 when they beat Algeria1-0 in Constantine.
