Chipolopolo Zambia completed their ten-day training camp in Morocco and are now heading to Nouakchott ahead of Friday’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifier against Mauritania.
Zambia coach Beston Chambeshi and his team set up a training base in Marrakech on August 20 in transit to Mauritania.
“Chipolopolo are due to leave Casablanca on Tuesday night and will arrive in Nouakchott in the early hours of Wednesday,” FAZ spokesman Sydney Mungala said prior to departure from Casablanca.
“Everything is in place and the coaches are happy with the ten-day training camp that we have had here in Morocco and the coaches have zeroed-in on their final team.”
Chambeshi on Monday named his final 22-member team that has eight foreign-based call-ups for the away game against Mauritania and the Group B match-day-two home date against Tunisia on September 7 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Missing is striker Fashion Sakala of Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers who returned to competitive action over the weekend following a three- week injury layoff.
“Fashion has just returned from injury and we have been liaising with the club throughout the whole period of his recovery,” Mungala said.
“We had hoped to have him for these two games but unfortunately after decisions with the club, it has been decided that in the interest of the player, and also of the team, he will be given more time to recover from his injury.”
