Mozambique will face off with Ivory Coast in their opening 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification Group D match on Friday.
Kick-off is at 3:00 pm CAT.
The match is expected to be played at the Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto in the capital and most populous city of Mozambique, Maputo.
The Mambas have never appeared in the World Cup finals and they are hoping to change this by qualifying for next year’s tournament.
They are winless in their last two matches across all competitions having recorded two successive defeats against South Africa and Eswatini.
Mozambique coach Horacio Gonçalves will look to Sporting Lisbon midfielder Geny Catamo and new Al Ahly star Luís Miquissone; who are key players for the Mambas.
Meanwhile, Ivory Coast have qualified for three World Cup finals and they are keen to return to the showpiece after failing to reach the 2018 tournament.
The Elephants’ captain Serge Aurier and towering centre forward Sebastien Haller are the key players for the team under coach Patrice Beaumelle.
Ivory Coast are unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions having recorded four wins and two draws with their last game against Ghana ending in a draw.
The previous encounter between Mozambique and Ivory Coast was on 7 September 2008.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Estádio da Machava in Matola, Mozambique.
