Egypt international Kouka has explained why he joined Turkish Super Lig outfit Konyaspor on Wednesday.
The towering striker, whose birth name is Ahmed Hassan, has joined the Anatolian Eagles from Greek giants Olympiacos on loan.
Kouka, who helped Olympiacos win two Greek Super League titles, stated that he wants to play in the Turkish top flight league because it has strong teams.
“To be honest, I’m very excited. I’m turning over a new leaf. I know our fans are pretty good,” Kouka told the club’s official website.
“I will fulfill my duty and make Konyaspor a success by scoring as many goals as I can. Every striker has a certain goal in mind, of course. I want to beat the 15 goals I scored last year.
“That’s how I want to contribute to my team’s wins. I followed Konyaspor’s games before I came here. Konyaspor is a really strong team playing good football,” he continued.
“This season has started well, and I believe we will continue to do so together. I would describe the Turkish league as a difficult league.
“There are strong opponents in the Turkish league. People are in love with football here just like in my own country. I can say that I will enjoy playing in Turkey.”
Kouka began his career in his native Egypt in the youth academy at Al Ahly, but he joined Portuguese side Rio Ave in 2012 without appearing for the first team.
The 28-year-old made his professional debut for Rio Ave in 2012 and three years later he joined their Portuguese rivals Braga, helping the team win the Taça de Portugal during his first season at the club.
He then had two loan spells at Olympiacos, before joining the club on a permanent deal in January 2020.
