Promoted sides Chambeshi FC and Kafue Celtic meet on the opening day of the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League season this Saturday at Edwin Emboela Stadium in Lusaka.
The match headlines Saturday’s Week 1 fixtures in the absence of last season’s top four finishers who include defending FAZ Super League champions Zesco United who are all away on continental assignments.
Record 13-time Zambia champions Nkana, who survived relegation at the end of last season, play 24 hours later at home against Nkwazi.
Celtic will be making their top- flight debut while Chambishi end their twelve-year absence from the FAZ Super League.
But the two sides are very familiar with each other from last season when they jostled for promotion in the FAZ National Division 1.
Celtic finished second behind 2020/2021 FAZ Division 1 champions Konkola Blades while Chambishi occupied the final fourth promotion slot.
Honours were even last term in Division 1 with Celtic and Chambishi interestingly collecting away victories against each other.
Chambishi won the first leg match 2-0 away on January 17 through a Kelvin Chomba brace.
Celtic beat Chambishi 1-0 in the final leg on June 2 courtesy of a Peter Chikola goal.
Meanwhile, FAZ Division 1 champions Blades are also in action this Saturday and they host Power Dynamos at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.
Blades are back in the FAZ Super League after four years away.
In the rest of the day’s fixtures, Prison Leopards host Forest Rangers at Presidents Stadium in Kabwe; Green Eagles await Buildcon in Choma while Green Buffaloes and Lusaka Dynamos meet in a Lusaka derby at Nkoloma Stadium.
