Buildcon are the unlikely day one leaders of the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League season on Saturday following a 2-1 away victory over Green Eagles in Choma.
The Ndola side didn’t enjoy the best of pre-season preparations after starting their build-up program three week ago due to administrative reasons in the wake of a player exodus that saw them lose over eight first-team players.
Eagles made a promising start when defender Warren Kunda put them ahead in the 12th minute and they enjoyed that lead well into the opening half-hour mark.
But Lubinda Mundia struck in the 28th and 50th minutes to hand Buildcon the 3 points against a side that was blessed with an eight-week head-start in terms of pre-season training.
At Edwin Emboela Stadium in Lusaka, Kafue Celtic and Chambishi finished 0-0 in their all-promoted side clash.
Their fellow promoted side Konkola Blades have started the campaign at number two following a 1-0 home win over Power Dynamos thanks to a 63rd minute goal by Ronald Chibwe.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s other two Week One fixtures ended in draws.
Prison Leopards and Forest Rangers finished 1-1 thanks to goals from their unrelated strikers Damiano Kola in the 53rd minute and Quadri Kola in the 56th minute respectively at Presidents Stadium in Kabwe.
At Nkoloma Stadium, Green Buffaloes earned a late point at home in their Lusaka derby against Lusaka Dynamos through a 77th minute Mweene Mumbi goal after Emmanuel Chabula had put the visitors ahead in the 12th minute.
