Zanaco coach Kevin Kaindu has hailed his team for kicking off their CAF Champions League campaign with an away win but warned that the job was not over.
The Zambian club on Sunday beat their Equatorial Guinea hosts Akonangui 2-0 in a preliminary round, first leg game in Ebebiyin.
“This is a good start to the campaign and it shows that we really prepared well for this encounter,” Kaindu said.
“But this doesn’t mean it’s over but a sign that we have to finish off the game at home with a much more improved performance.
“It’s a warning again to the players that we should not get carried away with this win but rather focus on finishing the job at home.”
Evans Katema put Zanaco ahead in the 14th minute and Ernest Mbewe sealed the victory in the 31st minute.
A home draw on September 18 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka is enough for Zanaco to advance to next month’s pre-group stage.
Second round qualification for Zanaco would see them play the winner between Express of Uganda and Sudan’s El Merreikh.
Express beat El Merreikh 2-1 in the first leg played on September 10 at home in Kampala.
