Zanaco attacker Ernest Mbewe reflects on scoring in last weekend’s CAF Champions League away victory in Equatorial Guinea and also looks ahead to this weekend’s preliminary round, final leg date against Akonangui.
The Zambian club beat Akonangui 2-0 away on September 12 in Ebebiyin to make a bright start to their 2021/2022 CAF Champions League campaign.
Mbewe scored Zanaco’s second goal in the 31st minute after Evans Katema put the visitors from Zambia ahead in the 14th minute.
“I feel great after helping my team win with a goal in the first game of the competition,”Mbewe said.
“It has left me very motivated and the victory has kind of also lessened the pressure on us as we go into the final leg in Lusaka.”
Zanaco hosts Akonangui in the final leg on September 18 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
“The entire team is feeling confident but we would have loved to win the first leg game by more than two goals,” Mbewe said.
“As for Saturday’s game, it will be tough but we are geared for a win so that we progress to the next round with a good record.”
Winner over both legs will advance to the pre-group stage to play either Express of Uganda or Sudan giants El Merriekh in a first leg away fixture during the dates of October 15-17.
