Legendary Senegalese forward El Hadji Diouf has likened Bamba Dieng to Ivorian legend Didier Drogba.
The 21-year-old striker has been in great scoring form this season – scoring three times from three matches in the French Ligue 1 for Olympique Marseille.
Diouf, who is widely considered to be one of Africa’s greatest wingers, compared Dieng to two-time African Player of the Year winner Drogba.
“I knew him with the national youth team. He is a striker, a Didier Drogba. All he knows how to do is score goals,” Diouf said on Rmcsport.
“I watched him with Diambars, and he was not far from being one of the top scorers in the Senegalese league. “He is a young person with a future.”
Dieng began his career with Diambars in the Senegalese Premier League, and had 12 goals in his first 14 games in his debut season.
The Pikine-born player finished as the top scorer of the Senegal Premier League for the 2019–20 season and he signed for Marseille in October 2020.
“The Senegal team, too, may have found its great striker. “All I have to say is that he keeps his head on his shoulders, that he continues to work,” he added.
“If he has three opportunities, he can convert two. He’s a striker who ends up in the box.”
Dieng made his debut for Marseille in a 2-0 Coupe de France win over Auxerre on 10 February 2021, scoring a goal in the 92nd minute of the game.
He is yet to represent Senegal at international level.
