Striker Evans Kangwa and midfielder Larry Bwalya have been handed Chipolopolo Zambia recalls by coach Beston Chambeshi.
The duo are part of a 24-member team Chambeshi named on September 23 for October’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifier doubleheader against Equatorial Guinea.
Kangwa of Russian club Arsenal Tula returns after a twelve month absence.
The striker last featured for Zambia in last October’s friendly series against Malawi at home and the two away games against Kenya and South Africa.
Bwalya of Tanzania champions Simba SC has not played for Chipolopolo since the reign of Aggrey Chiyangi in 2019 during the 2020 CHAN qualifiers.
The midfielder replaces Edward Chilufya of Swedish club Djurgardens who has been dropped following modest displays in Chipolopolo’s opening two Group B qualifiers against Mauritania and Tunisia.
Also back is Glasgow Rangers striker Fashion Sakala who was excused from the opening two Group B qualifiers to fully recover from an injury he sustained during SPL action in August.
Zanaco striker Moses Phiri has also returned for the first time since Chipolopolo’s June three -match friendly tour of Senegal, Benin and Sudan under ex -coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic.
But Chambeshi has dropped promising teenage striker Jimmy Mukeya of Napsa Stars who made an impressive debut as a late substitute in Zambia’s 2-0 home loss to Tunisia in Ndola on September 7.
Also missing is midfielder Salulani Phiri who recently rejoined Zanaco after five seasons at South African club Polokwane City.
Salulani has been overlooked for the second time since Chambeshi’s appointment in late July.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo will resume their Group B campaign away in Malabo on October 6 and then host Equatorial Guinea in the final leg on October 10 in Lusaka.
Tunisia are in command of Group B on maximum 6points.
STRIKERS: Fashion Sakala (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland), Patson Daka (Leicester City, England), Brian Mwila (Buildcon), Moses Phiri (Zanaco), Evans Kangwa (Arsenal Tula, Russia)
