Coach Beston Chambeshi has described Nkana’s first win of the season in Thursday’s 1-0 home win over 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup envoys Red Arrows as a starting point for the new campaign.
Thursday’s result at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe is a huge relief for Nkana after they kicked off the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League campaign on September 12 with a 3-2 home loss to third placed Nkwazi.
“We are happy as a technical staff to get this win. We worked hard for it and the boys played their lungs out against Red Arrows who put up a good fight,” Chambeshi said.
“It is a good win for us and we now know where we can start from.”
Zimbabwean defender Gilroy Chimwemwe’s 57th minute free-kick handed the record 13-time Zambian champions their first win of the campaign as Chambeshi charts Nkana’s rebuilding process after saving them from relegation on the last day of last season.
“We learn football by playing football, so as a coach I am learning a lot looking at the way my players are coming up,” Chambeshi said.
“We have some new players who have to adapt to our style of play. It is not easy but we will push them.”
Nkana, who have a game in hand, are back in action this Sunday in a Week 4 fixture away to Kabwe Warriors.
Their hosts Warriors are reeling from their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage exit last Sunday and on Wednesday lost 1-0 away to promoted Kansanshi Dynamos in their first league game of the season.
