Shepolopolo Zambia U20 made a bright start in their 2022 Costa Rica FIFA U20 World Cup qualifiers on Friday with a 6-0 rout of Malawi at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Enalis Phiri took home the ball after scoring a hat-trick to inspire Shepolopolo U20 to their home victory.

Phiri put Zambia two-up in the 13th and 25th minutes while Evarine Katongo added the third goal in the 37th minute.

Xiomara Mapepa added Zambia’s fourth in the 49th minute and Phiri completed her hat-trick with a 68th minute penalty.

Lungowe Namasiku scored Zambia’s final goal in the 76th minute.

The final leg will be played in Malawi on October 9 and the winner over both legs will face Ghana in the third round that will see the West Africans play away in the first leg.

Two teams left standing at the end of the five round Africa zone qualifying series will ultimately book their tickets to the Costa Rica finals.
