Former Egypt international Hesham Hanafy says Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane will soon be fired by the club.
Mosimane’s future at the Cairo-based giants is reportedly uncertain after the team lost two domestic trophies in the Egyptian Premier League and Egyptian Super Cup.
The South African tactician guided Al Ahly to the Egyptian Cup quarter-finals over the weekend as the Red Castle claimed a 1-0 victory against ENPPI in the round of 16 encounter.
However, Hanafy, who is a former Al Ahly player turned pundit, still expects Mosimane to leave the African champions despite having led the Red Castle to two back-to-back CAF Champions League titles.
“I have confirmed information from inside the club that Reda Shehata [El-Gouna head coach] will join Al-Ahly’s technical staff [To replace Cavin Johnson],” Hanafy said on King Fut.
“I feel that Mosimane will not continue with Al Ahly, the team’s performance isn’t reassuring and I don’t feel that the players are improving.”
The retired midfielder also indicated that Al Ahly management are already in talks with an unnamed German coach, who could replace Mosimane.
“The performance has become very routine, any team that will face Al Ahly will close its defensive line and the Reds will struggle and will win with a lot of difficulties,” he added.
“I doubt that Mosimane will continue with Al Ahly, there is something going on in Germany [alluding to the rumor that Cairo giants are in negotiations with a German coach].”
Al Ahly are set to take on Niger’s Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale in the second preliminary round first-leg clash of the Champions League on October 15th.
