Zesco United captain John Chingandu has been applauded for leading by example after scoring a brace in Saturdays 2-0 away Ndola derby win over Indeni.
The victory at Indeni Sports Complex saw the defending FAZ Super League champions collect maximum points from their opening two games with three matches in hand as they play catch-up following their recent preliminary stage exit from the CAF Champions League.
“That is what I expect from my team captain. He rose to the occasion and he managed to give us the two goals. We are happy with what he has done,” Zesco coach Mumamba Numba said.
Chingandu’s first goal came in the 7th minute when he tapped-in a cross from Winston Kalengo.
The Zesco midfielder completed his brace in the 49th minute when he intercepted Indeni goalkeeper Alpha Lukong’s poor clearance to punish him for the error.
Zesco are sixth on the log and are just four points behind leaders Green Buffaloes.
Numba’s side is back in action this Wednesday when they visit newcomers Kafue Celtic in a Week Five fixture at Edwin Emboela Stadium in Lusaka in their penultimate league game before the FIFA October international break from October 4-12.
“We are very happy to have collected 6 points in two games. We just need to keep on encouraging the team so that we collect maximum points before we go into the international break,” Numba said.
