Leaders Green Buffaloes maintained their unbeaten start to the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League season on Saturday following a 2-0 away win over Chambishi FC to open a five-point lead.
Buffaloes victory also ended Chambishi’s unbeaten home record where they had collected two draws prior to the loss in their first season back in the FAZ Super League since 2009.
The Lusaka side has now won five successive league games after kicking off the league campaign with a 1-1 home draw against fellow unbeaten side Lusaka Dynamos.
But Buffaloes didn’t have an easy ride at Chambishi who came into the match with a spring in their step after beating Nkana 1-0 away in Kitwe last Wednesday to record their first league win of the season.
Chambishi fell behind by their own hand in the 16th minute after defender Patrick Mambwe’s headed back-pass to goalkeeper Jairos Mulenga went horribly wrong to instead see him score an own-goal.
Then the woodwork conspired against Chambishi in the 24th minute when Chabala Kasanda and Konga Konga hit the woodwork in quick succession before Buffaloes cleared their lines.
Buffaloes striker Friday Samu then punished Mulenga for a poor clearance after the Chambishi goalkeeper parried the ball into his path in the 54th minute to score his third goal of the season.
Desperation then crept in the 81st minute for Chambishi when captain Kelvin Chomba earned himself a yellow card after a poorly executed Hand of God that Silwamba easily saved.
Buffaloes have 16 points while Nkwazi are second on 11 points following a`1-1 home draw with Forest Rangers who are fourth on 9 points.
Buildcon, who are third on 10 points, can reclaim second place if they can beat hosts Lusaka Dynamos on Sunday.
