Linos Makwaza is heading to his troubled former club Power Dynamos as head coach.
Winless Power have made a poor start to the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League season after recently picking up two draws to end a four-match losing start that has seen interim coach Masauso Tembo sidelined.
But Makwaza’s imminent arrival at second from bottom Power was confirmed by his now former employers and FAZ National Division One club Jumulo FC.
“Coach Linos Makwaza today communicated to Jumulo Football Club that he was leaving the club to join MTN Super League giants Power Dynamos,” Jumulo said in a statement.
“Makwaza has been instrumental in changing the fortunes for Jumulo FC having qualified the club to Division 1 National League in his first year of appointment. The team is currently ranked 4th on the table with 10 points from six games played.
“Jumulo FC wishes him all the best of luck as he takes up his role at Power Dynamos.”
Jumulo assistant coach and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gift Kampamba has replaced Makwaza.
Makwaza is also set for a family reunion at Power where his son and midfielder Linos Makwaza Junior plays.
Meanwhile, Makwaza has returned to Power where he played for fifteen years and won four league titles including the 1991 CAF Cup Winners Cup.
He retired in 2000 and joined the Power bench as an assistant coach until 2006.
Makwaza later went on to coach Zamtel FC, Forest Rangers and Power’s archrivals Nkana from 2010 to 2012.
The ex-Chipolopolo Zambia midfielder also had stints at Konkola Mine Police, Lime Hotspurs, Napsa Stars and Nakambala Leopards.
