Shepolopolo Zambia is bracing for a tough ride against Uganda on Tuesday in the battle for semifinal qualification at the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Cup that South Africa is hosting in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Zambia lead Group C on maximum 6 points, two points more than Uganda as the pools’ unbeaten sides head into today’s top-two showdown.

“It’s going to be a huge test for us because Uganda are really going to try and frustrate us in order for us not to get there,” Zambia assistant coach Florence Mwila said.

“So for us, if the worst comes to the worst, it has got to be a draw.”

A draw is enough to send Zambia through to the semifinals while Uganda needs nothing less than a victory to advance.

However, Shepolopolo can still go through as best runners-up thanks to their very healthy goal difference accrued after beating Eswatini 5-0 and Namibia 3-0 in their opening two Group C matches.

Zambia’s aggregate edges out that of best runner-up contenders Malawi and Zimbabwe who finished second in Group A and B respectively on 6 points and who are both keeping their fingers crossed over the final outcome in Group C.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s meeting will be a grudge match as Zambia seeks revenge over Uganda who beat them 1-0 in the battle for Bronze from the 2019 championship held at the same venue.

Winner of Group C will face Group B winners Tanzania in the semifinals on October 7 while the best runner-up must deal with holders Banyana Banyana South Africa in the other penultimate date on the same day.
