Striker Evans Kangwa will miss Chipolopolo Zambia’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifier first leg match against Equatorial Guinea away in Malabo on October 7.

The news comes just 24 hours after the striker from Russian club Arsenal Tula joined Zambia in Cameroon where the team set-up a transit training camp in Douala last Thursday.

“With regards to Evans Kangwa, he suffered a minor hamstring injury and we are working on him,” Chipolopolo team physician, Dr George Phiri said.

“He might not be ready for this game but for sure he will be ready for the home game in Lusaka. At the moment he is on light training and we are managing him accordingly.”

Chipolopolo will host Equatorial Guinea in their Group B final leg fixture on October 10 at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Kangwa has just returned to the Chipolopolo fold for the first time since October 2020.

He was part of Zambia’s three-match friendly series a year ago against Malawi, Kenya and Bafana Bafana following FIFA’s lifting of the seven-month international match lockdown that month during the first wave of Covid-19.

The set-back also comes in the wake of Brighton midfielder Enoch Mwepu’s absence for the Group B doubleheader due to a groin injury that has seen him sidelined since September 22.
