Ghana will be aiming to complete a Group G double over Zimbabwe when the two nations meet in a CAF second round 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Tuesday. Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT.

The Black Stars defeated their opponents 3-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.

Knowledge Musona cancelled out Mohammed Kudus’ opener but goals from Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew sealed a comfortable victory for the West African nation, in Milovan Rajevac’s first game back in charge.

“It was a good day after the result we got,” said Rajevac in the aftermath. “We started the game well but later in the match we had some problems, especially in some parts of the second half.

“We conceded a goal but I managed to identify some of the problems and made the right substitutions, so we came back and won.

“We were lucky at some moments of the match but the most important thing is that we got three points and our hard work paid off.”

Victory moved Ghana up to six points in Group G and a point behind group leaders South Africa who defeated Ethiopia by the same scoreline in Bahir Dar.

Zimbabwe are rooted to the bottom of the group having accumulated a mere point after three rounds of fixtures and interim head coach Norman Mapeza is realistic about the Warriors’ chances of reaching Qatar 2022.

“Sometimes you need to be realistic in life, the chances are now very slim,” said Mapeza. “We are, however, not losing hope and will continue working hard.

“We are also using the remaining matches to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in January,” he added.

In head-to-head stats, Ghana and Zimbabwe have now met in seven matches dating back as far as 1996. The Black Stars have claimed four wins compared to one for the Warriors, while two games have been drawn.
