Egypt brushed aside Libya 3-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification Group F match at the 28 March Stadium in Benghazi on Monday night.

As a result, the Pharaohs maintained their lead at the top of the group standings, while the Mediterranean Knights remained second after they were humbled by the North African rivals.

The Mediterranean Knights were on a revenge mission having succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to the Pharaohs in a Group F encounter which was played in Egypt on Friday.

Egypt suffered a blow as their finest goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy went down injured and the Al Ahly captain was replaced by Zamalek shot-stopper Mohamed Abou-Gabal four minutes before the hour-mark.

However, the Pharaohs controlled the match and they broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Ahmed Fatouh scored with a low shot to hand Egypt a 1-0 lead after being set up by Mostafa Mohamed.

Mohamed then put his name on the score sheet in first-half stoppage time as the Galatasaray SK striker headed home a cross from Omar Marmoush to make it 2-0 to Egypt heading into the half-time break.

Alsanousi Ammar and Mohamed El-Munir were introduced by coach Javier Clemente after the restart as Libya looked to pull one back and Abou Gabal made two saves to deny Ali Musrati and Muaid Ellafi.

Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz reacted by introducing Ramadan Sobhi, who made an impact as he beat keeper Mohamed Nashnoush to extend Egypt’s lead to 3-0 with Mohamed Salah grabbing an assist in the 71st minute.

The Pyramids FC forward’s goal sealed Egypt’s 3-0 victory over Libya as the Pharaohs took control of Group F.
