Ivory Coast and Egypt maintained their good form in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers by securing wins on Monday.
The Elephants of Ivory Coast remained at the top of Group D standings after securing a 2-1 win over Malawi at home with Franck Kessie scoring the winning goal.
Ivory Coast are just a point above second-placed Cameroon, who also registered a win on Monday as they defeated Mozambique 1-0 courtesy of Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui’s goal.
In Group F, Egypt extended their lead to four points at the top of the standings after they thrashed Libya 3-0 in the North African Derby encounter which was played in Benghazi.
Goals from Ahmed Fatouh, Mostafa Mohamed, and Ramadan Sobhi earned Egypt the victory and they will win Group F if they defeat Angola away next month.
Meanwhile, Angola, who participated in the 2006 World Cup finals, were stunned by Gabon on Monday as they lost 2-0 with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring the opening goal.
Lastly, Burkina Faso climbed to the top of Group A standings after claiming a comfortable 2-0 home win over Djibouti at home with Issoufou Dayo and Abdoul Tapsoba scoring.
The Stallions are now three points above second-placed Algeria, who are scheduled to face Niger away on Tuesday.
