Defending champions Zesco United jumped six places up the FAZ Super League log following a 2-0 away win over struggling Kabwe Warriors in Kabwe.
Wednesday afternoon’s victory also saw Zesco bounce back from their first league defeat of the 2021/2022 season on September 29 when new boys Kafue Celtic ended their two-match winning start to their title defence.
Both goals came in the second half at Godfrey “Ucar’ Chitalu Stadium before defender Solomon Sakala broke the deadlock when he headed-in the opener in the 55th minute.
Striker Jesse Were then opened his league account for the season in the 73rd minute to lift Zesco from 10th to fourth.
Zesco have 9 points from four games played, two points behind second placed Nkwazi and seven adrift of Green Buffaloes.
The champions are tied on points with their Ndola rivals Forest Rangers who have been displaced to number five.
Warriors on the other hand stay third from bottom at number 16 on 4 points from six games after suffering their third league loss of the season.
Meanwhile, the victory is a great boost for Zesco as they prepare to make the short drive from Ndola to Kitwe this Saturday to face Nkana in the big Copperbelt derby.
