Ghanaian great Mohammed Polo has backed Hearts of Oak to hold their own against continental heavyweights Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League.
The Ghana Premier League champions will host the Moroccan side in Accra later today for the first leg of a second round qualifying tie.
While the Phobians are participating in the CAFCL for the first time since 2008, Wydad are one of the continent’s most consistent teams at the top level, having reached at least the semifinals of the Champions League in five of the last six editions of the tournament, including winning the title in 2017.
Despite this gulf in recent continental experience, Hearts legend Polo has backed the Accra side to push WAC all the way.
“It is time for the players to show the quality they are made of. We have shown our quality and it is time for them to show the quality they are made of,” Polo told Happy FM, as quoted by Football Ghana.
”We have passed the baton to them to show. They have to prove a point and play above themselves.”
He added, “I am hopeful if they believe in what they have and the technical men push them to perform we will see something good and the results will be positive as well.
“The game will be difficult but the players must be up to the task and prove their quality.”
The winners of the tie will advance into the group stage of the CAFCL.
