Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen says his decisive strike for Napoli against Torino this past weekend is the most important goal of his career so far.

Osimhen struck an 81st minute winner as Napoli edged Torino 1-0 at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday evening and thereby maintained their perfect start to the 2021-22 Serie A season.

The Neapolitans looked set to lose their 100 percent record against a stubborn Il Toro, but the Super Eagles star ensured they claimed an eighth win from as many outings in the Italian top flight and remained two points clear of nearest chasers AC Milan.

“It’s amazing to win; for all of us. It’s an incredible atmosphere. We deserved to win, also for the statistics today and in general for the whole season,” Osimhen told DAZN, as quoted by TuttoNapoli.

“This championship is not easy; we have to continue like this, without stopping.

“(For the goal) I saw that the ball was coming; I had to anticipate it; it could have been an opportunity.

“It’s true, I was nervous, they kept pushing from behind, and it was getting difficult.

“It was the most important goal of my career because it was important to win, and so we welcomed the fans.”

Osimhen’s strike against Torino was his fifth goal in seven Serie A games this season and eighth in all competitions.

The Nigerian will hope to add to his tally when Napoli face Legia Warsaw at home in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday 21 October.
