Last seasons’ FAZ Super League top three finishers are in the action this Wednesday and all head into their respective mid-week fixtures grappling with inconsistent starts to their domestic campaigns.
Defending FAZ Super League champions Zesco United, runners-up Zanaco and third place finishers Red Arrows are all at home in their rescheduled league fixtures.
Seventh placed Zesco hosts 11th positioned Kansanshi Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in a rescheduled Week 6 fixture.
The fixture comes four days after Zesco’s big Copperbelt derby away loss in Kitwe to Nkana who beat them 1-0.
That result also handed Zesco their second league loss of the season from five matches played.
It will be a battle of the vanquished at Levy Stadium with visitors Kansanshi also coming from a bruising loss on October 16 when they lost 1-0 to debutants Kafue Celtic to become their fellow promoted slides fourth victim in as many games played.
It is a critical match for Zesco who know that the prize for a victory with a very healthy score line over Kansanshi is a potential second place for them on goal difference on 12 points.
Victory would move Zesco within four points of leaders Green Buffaloes who visit them this Saturday at the same venue.
However, Zesco must also pray that second from bottom Zanaco beat number two side Buildcon in their delayed Week 7 fixture at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
Meanwhile, up the road at Nkoloma Stadium, bottom of the table Arrows host sixth placed Forest Rangers.
Arrows have 4 points, one less than their fellow bottom four teams Zanaco, Power Dynamos and Prison Leopards.
