Coach Mumamba Numba has praised Zesco United for responding to last Saturday’s loss to Nkana with an emphatic 4-0 home win over Kansanshi Dynamos on Wednesday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zesco’s home victory over promoted Kansanshi saw the defending FAZ Super League champions bounce back from their 1-0 away loss at Nkana in their big Copperbelt derby played in Kitwe on October 16.

That result also handed Zesco its second league defeat of the 2021/2022 FAZ Super League season.

“That is the mark of a champion. When you come from loss and you respond like we did on Wednesday,” Numba said.

“I think that is what we expect from a team like us because we are a big team. When we lose a game, we have to reflect and come back strongly.”

Zimbabwean midfielder Thabani Kamusoko put Zesco ahead in the 25th minute while Kenyan striker Jesse Were scored the second goal in the 57th minute just five minutes after he replaced Winston Kalengo.

Defender Solomon Sakala made it three-nil in the 87th minute and midfielder Dickson Chapa completed Zesco’s good day with a stoppage time goal and his first for the nine-time Zambian champions since moving there this term on loan from demoted Napsa Stars.

The win has lifted Zesco from seventh to number two and they are now seven points behind leaders and this season’s only unbeaten side Green Buffaloes on 12 and 19 points from six and seven matches played respectively.

Meanwhile, Zesco will not have to wait long to face their early season contenders because they host Buffaloes this Saturday in Ndola at Levy Stadium.

“We just have to be at our best if we have to beat Buffaloes this Saturday so that we can narrow the gap between them then and us,” Numba said.
