Fashion Sakala was on the winning side in UEFA Europa League action this week for Glasgow Rangers but the Chipolopolo striker could not emulate compatriot Patson Daka’s midweek continental exploits.
The Scottish champions were at home on Thursday just 24 hours after Patson’s four goals inspired Leicester City to their first Group C win when they rallied from two-zero down in the opening 44 minutes to beat Spartak Moscow 4-3 away in Russia.
But Fashion started from the bench for Rangers in their 2-0 home win over Danish club Brondby at Ibrox to also see them collect their first group victory of the campaign.
The Zambian striker came on in the 71st minutes for Colombian Alfredo Morelos after Rangers had already taken the lead through Leon Balogun in the 18th minute and Kemar Roofe in the 30th minute.
However, Fashion was denied Chipolopolo headlines in the 82nd minute.
This is after Brondby goalkeeper Thomas Mikkelsen threw himself into harm’s way to block Fashion’s shot after the Zambian striker had outpaced two defenders on the edge of the area.
Meanwhile, the win saw Rangers move one place up the log from bottom to 3rd on 3 points to collect their first points in Group A after three games played.
Brondby, who host Rangers in the return leg on November 4,are bottom of Group A with 1 point, Czech side Sparta Prague are second on 4 points while French club Olympique Lyon lead on maximum 9 points.
