Kaizer Chiefs moved up to fifth place on the 2021/22 DStv Premiership standings with a 2-1 win over Supersport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

There were only four league matches this weekend, two on Saturday and a further two on Sunday, with Caf Confederation Cup and Caf Champions League football in full flow.

Maritzburg United and TS Galaxy got this weekend’s action underway at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday. The Team of Choice claimed a 1-0 win over TS Galaxy thanks to an own goal from Bathusi Aubaas in the opening seconds of the second half.

As a result, the Rockets, who have now lost five on the trot, remain rooted to the foot of the table and winless after eight matches having accumulated just two points.

Cape Town City defeated Golden Arrows 4-3 in a thrilling match in the Mother City. The Citizens raced into a 4-0 lead before the hour mark, only for Arrows to hit back with three goals of their own in the final half hour to make for a tense finish.

There were seven different scorers on the day with Fagrie Lakay, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Craig Martin on target for the hosts while Pule Mmodi, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Nqobeko Dlamini netted for Abafana Bes’thende.

Chippa United and Swallows FC extended their respective winless runs to seven matches in the league on the back of a 0-0 draw at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams have struggled in front of goal and have only netted a total of five goals between them, and are very much in the relegation fight at this early stage of the campaign as a result.

Keagan Dolly and Bernard Parker teamed up for both Chiefs goals in the final game of the weekend as the Amakhosi claimed a morale-boosting win over Matsatsantsa at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Parker ended his goal drought in the league with a brace to move past Siphiwe Tshabalala as the club’s all-time top scorer in the Premier Soccer League era. Parker netted either side of a Njabulo Ngcobo own goal as Chiefs ended SuperSport’s unbeaten start to the season.

Full list of results, 23-24 October:

Maritzburg United 1-0 TS Galaxy

Cape Town City 4-3 Golden Arrows

Chippa United 0-0 Swallows FC

SuperSport United 1-2 Kaizer Chiefs
