Junior Chipolopolo Zambia’s group stage draw at the 2021 COSAFA U17 Championship will be revised on October 27 following Zimbabwe’s late admission for this December’s event in Lesotho.
Zambia were earlier drawn in Group B with Eswatini, Mauritius, Madagascar and hosts Lesotho.
Defending champions South Africa are in Group B where they were drawn against Angola, Malawi, Botswana and Seychelles.
“But given that the Boys tournament was to be played in two pools of five teams each, Zimbabwe’s entry will require a re-draw,” COSAFA said in a statement.
“The format of the competition will now be three pools, two with four teams and one with three.”
This year’s edition of the COSAFA U17 Championship will be held under the aegis of the Region 5 Youth Games that Lesotho is hosting from December 1-10 in Maseru.
Zambia finished runners-up at the 2020 COSAFA U17 Cup following a 4-2 post-match penalty loss to South Africa after a 1-1 fulltime draw.
