Newcastle United will reportedly look to make Aston Villa’s Zimbabwean international Marvelous Nakamba one of their January transfer market acquisitions.
The Magpies were recently taken over by a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium and will have virtually unlimited funds with which to bolster their squad.
Nakamba, according to the Football Insider has emerged as a target for United, with the 27-year-old midfielder set to cost somewhere in the region of £15 million.
The Zimbabwean is not a regular for Villa this season, having made just one start (plus four substitute appearances) in the Premier League.
Yet he could prove a valuable addition for Newcastle, with the current squad lacking in quality in central midfield.
Nakamba has been on the Birmingham club’s books since 2019 when he was signed from Club Brugge. He has also represented Nancy Lorraine and Vitesse Arnhem in his European club career.
A potential stumbling block to the signing is that Nakamba could well be a part of Zimbabwe’s squad at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, having featured in the Warriors’ squads at the last two tournaments in 2017 and 2019.
