Nkana’s in-form striker Alex Ngonga has been handed another call-up for Zambia’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifiers by Chipolopolo coach Beston Chambeshi.

Zambia wrap-up their now formality Qatar Group B qualifiers next month firstly with a home date against Mauritania in a penultimate fixture on November 13 and then visit Tunisia on November 16.

Ngonga mysteriously failed to honour the initial call-up that he received on August 4 during Chambeshi’s first month on the job as he prepared for his opening two Group B qualifier assignments against Mauritania away in Nouakchott on September 3 and against Tunisia at home in Ndola on September 7.

The Nkana striker, who has not played for Chipolopolo since 2018, has been in red-hot form since joining the Kitwe giants in the last two months of the 2020/2021 season as a free agent from their Kitwe arch-rivals Power Dynamos.

Ngonga scored 8 goals for Nkana during that spell that helped saved the record 13-time Zambian champions from relegation.

He has made a similar start to the 2021/2022 season with 4 goals already from eight league matches played.

Ngonga is part of a 20-member home-based Chipolopolo team that enters camp in Lusaka this weekend.

The team includes recalls for Nkwazi goalkeeper Charles Muntanga and Napsa Stars defender Luka Banda.

Ngonga’s club mate and goalkeeper Kelvin Malunga who has also made a notable start to the season has been rewarded with his first recall- since 2019.

Chipolopolo are out of the Qatar race and sit third in Group B on 4 points, three points behind second placed Equatorial Guinea and a further six points adrift of leaders Tunisia with two games left to play.
