Nigeria may be without lead striker Victor Osimhen for their final two group stage matches in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers next month.
The Napoli striker, who has been in brilliant form in the 2021-22 season, has picked up an injury in training for the Serie A club and is set to miss their clash against Salernitana later today (Sunday, 31 October).
The early prognosis, as per Nigeria Soccernet, suggests that the player will miss approximately two weeks of action – enough to rule him out of the impending international break.
This would mean Super Eagles boss Gernot Roht would be without the 22-year-old for the Group C matches against Liberia (away) and Cape Verde (home) in mid-November.
Osimhen has scored two goals to help Nigeria sit at the top of Group C, with the West African heavyweights needing only two draws to guarantee progression into the final phase of qualifying, a playoff tie against a fellow group winners next March.
