Kaizer Chiefs will look to put an end to Stellenbosch FC’s strong start to the DStv Premiership season in the pick of eight midweek matches played across Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 November in South Africa’s top flight.
Stellies have been one of the surprise packages of the 2021-22 season thus far, putting together an eight-game unbeaten run to sit second on the log behind champions and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
In fact, the Cape side could join the Brazilians on 19 points if they defeat Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, but the Amakhosi are showing signs of a revival and will back themselves to be the first to put a defeat on Stellenbosch’s record.
“I think we are getting there, doing everything right, doing what the coach needs from each and every player, you know,” said Chiefs midfielder Anthony Akumu after they handed SuperSport United a first league defeat of the season last month.
“It does not matter who plays and who is not playing, it is just a matter of giving your best and getting the maximum points.”
Tuesday also sees Royal AM looking to continue their hot-streak with a win at home to SuperSport; Golden Arrows hosting Swallows FC in Durban; TS Galaxy chasing a first win of the season when they face Baroka FC in Nelspruit; and Orlando Pirates looking to break a four-game winless streak in the league when they host Sekhukhune United in Soweto.
Wednesday is headlined by Sundowns, fresh from their MTN8 triumph this past weekend, hosting Maritzburg United and looking to make it seven wins from eight outings, while their vanquished cup final opponents, Cape Town City, will be at home to Chippa United. AmaZulu will also be in action, as Benni McCarthy’s side aim to extend Marumo Gallants’ wait for a first league win of the campaign.
