Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba has told his players time is ticking away as the midway point of the 2021/2022 season looms following an inconsistent start to their FAZ Super League title defence.
The defending FAZ Super League champions have won just one of their last four games in which spell they have drawn two successive matches heading into this Saturdays Week 10 home match against Green Eagles in Ndola.
“I think we are heading towards the midway point of the season. This is the time we should start picking up points so that we reduce the gap between us and the teams that are ahead of us,” Numba said.
Zesco are currently third on 13 points, eight points behind leaders and unbeaten Green Buffaloes after eight and nine matches played respectively.
Nkwazi are second on 14 points while Buildcon are a point behind Zesco at number four.
The champions last won a game on October 20 when they beat Kansanshi Dynamos 4-0 at home in Ndola.
Later, a 10-man Zesco salvaged a 1-1 draw on October 23 via a stoppage time penalty against visiting Buffaloes.
Zesco followed that up on October 30 with another 1-1 draw away in Chililabombwe against Konkola Blades where again they rallied from one-down to share the spoils.
“So as we play Green Eagles this weekend it is a must-win game since we are at home,” Numba said.
“From the last two performances we have played against Konkola Blades and Green Buffaloes, I think we struggled a bit against Blades in the first half but in the second half there was much improvement.
“But if we can replicate the performance that we saw against Buffaloes, then I think there is no team that can stand against us.”
