Promoted FAZ Super League side Chambishi FC have dismissed head coach Elijah Chikwanda.

Chikwanda departs Chambishi after leading them to promotion at the end of the 2020/2021 season that ended their eleven-year absence from the FAZ Super League.

He joined Chambishi with five games left in their promotion race.

Chikwanda’s dismissal comes after a poor start to the 2021/2022 season that has seen the Copperbelt club record just one win from nine matches played.

Chambishi are currently second from bottom on 7 points.

“The Executive Committee of Chambishi Football Club has mutually agreed to part ways with Mr. Elijah Chikwanda,” Chambishi spokesperson Chali Katongo said in a statement.

“The Exco has appointed Mr. Kaunda Simonda as the new head coach. Mr. Simonda has brought with him Mr. Israel Mwanza as his assistant.”

Simonda returns to the bench after a spell at Nkana where he was assistant coach and also revolved as caretaker boss since 2019 but his contract was not renewed at the end of last season.

Interestingly, Simonda’s assistant Mwanza was Chambishi head coach until he left them last February to move next door to Chingola to take up the Nchanga Rangers job.

Nchanga fired Mwanza a week ago.
