Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba has demanded his charges end their two-match winless run in Saturday’s FAZ Super League home date against Green Eagles at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The defending champions come into the home game against Eagles after collecting successive 1-1 draws away to Konkola Blades on October 23 and at home against leaders Green Buffaloes on October 23.

Zesco last tasted victory at home on October 20 when they beat Kansanshi Dynamos 4-0.

“We are coming from a background where we drew two games. This is a game where we need to fight and collect three points,” Numba told Zesco’s official website.

Numba has reason to be wary of Eagles despite the visitor’s poor start to the campaign and who come into the match sitting at number 13 on 10 points with just two wins from nine matches played.

Eagles have lost just once to Zesco in their last five league meetings and that was in the 2019 transitional season title playoff final at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Zesco won the final 3-1 on post-match penalties after a scoreless draw.

Since then, the two sides have played out to three scoreless draws, but prior to that, Eagles snatched a 1-0 home win over Zesco in the 2018 season.

“It is all about our attitude when we meet Green Eagles. We must go with a positive mind and ask the right questions. Remember that we are playing a determined side. They work as a unit,” Numba said.

“To get a good result against Eagles will require us to be at our best. We must be aggressive from the word go so that we show our intentions that we want to win the game.

“We just need to make sure that the team we select to represent us tomorrow gives us the best results. We need to win the game so that we start moving up the ladder.”

But, Zesco will be without midfielder Spencer Sautu who is on loan from Eagles who is barred from facing his parent club.

Striker Winston Kalengo including defenders Simon Silwimba and Adrian Chama remain sidelined with medium-term injuries.

Meanwhile, Zesco are third on the FAZ Super League log with 14 points, four points behind second placed Nkwazi who are also in action on Saturday at home in Lusaka against newcomers Kafue Celtic.

The defending FAZ Super League champions are seven points behind leaders Green Buffaloes who visit Nkana in Kitwe this Sunday.
