The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has disclosed that they will introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in 2022.
FAZ President Andrew Kamanga said progress towards implementation of the system is at an advanced stage.
Kamanga added that the system would first be test-run during live TV games in the FAZ Super League.
“We have identified technology as one area that requires a lot of investment and with that regard we will be implementing VAR starting from next year,” Kamanga said on November 15 when he opened an elite FIFA goalkeeper training course in Lusaka.
“We have been working in the background to adopt these modern technologies and we believe that if we introduce this VAR, particularly in our Super League, it will go a long way in addressing the never ending complaints against match officiating.”
Kamanga said VAR would gradually be introduced to the FAZ National First Division and FAZ Women’s League.
Meanwhile, Kamanga also disclosed that FAZ was working towards introducing GPS training and video analysis equipment to FAZ Super League and second tier sides.
