Green Buffaloes Women’s FC coach Charles Halubono reflects on retaining the FAZ Women’s League crown after a gruelling 2021 season.

Buffaloes retained the league title with four games to spare following a 5-0 home win over bottom of the table Nkana Queens on Thursday in Lusaka.

The champions have 59 points, eight points more than number two side Red Arrows and third placed Zesco United.

“We feel good because this league season has been very tough. At least our hard work has paid off. At a certain point we struggled but later on we picked up,” Halubono said.

Halubono had to deal with six players away on Tokyo Olympics duty in June and July.

Buffaloes later took part in the inaugural COSAFA Women’s Champions League tournament in South Africa in late August where they reached the semifinals.

At that point, Buffaloes were sixth in the league on 28 points from 12 games while Zesco were leading the log on 42 points after 19 games played.

“Overall, I am very happy with the performance of the team because this season has been very tough. We also participated in the COSAFA Champions League and learnt a lot from the tournament even though we only managed to reach the semifinal,” Halubono said.
