FAZ have confirmed that Beston Chambeshi’s mandate as Chipolopolo Zambia coach has expired.
Chambeshi was handed a short-term role as Chipolopolo coach in late July following the departure of Serbian Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredjovic who left the post by mutual consent after a year-and-a-half in charge.
FAZ handed Chambeshi exclusive mandate to oversee Zambia’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group B qualifiers that run from September to November 2021.
“I am sure you are aware that the just-ended first round of the World Cup qualifiers we hired temporary coaches and at the end of it all it’s time that FAZ acted on having a permanent coach and true to the public’s assertions, the executive is actually very keen to ensure that we have a permanent coach,” FAZ general secretary Adrian Kashala told media in Lusaka.
Chambeshi’s interim reign was not a successful one after Chipolopolo failed to mount a strong challenge for Qatar qualification with two wins, three defeats and a draw.
Chipololpolo finished third in Group B on 7 points, Equatorial Guinea were second on 10 points while Tunisia won the pool on 13 points.
Mauritania finished bottom of Group B on 2 points.
