Mumamba Numba has cautioned his Zesco United players not to use last season’s emphatic away win over Buildcon as a benchmark heading into Sunday’s first leg Ndola derby date at Levy Mwanawasa  Stadium.

Zesco beat Buildcon 7-2 away in their last meeting in the 2020/2021 season to record their biggest Ndola derby win and also maintain their unbeaten record since their hosts on Sunday made their FAZ Super League debut in 2017.

But fifth placed Buildcon have made a better start to their season losing just one of their last eight games.

The defending FAZ Super League champions on the other hand are limping at number 10 and have picked up three defeats from their last eight games.

“I think if we go into this game with that in our minds then we might lose it. I think the best is to take this game as a different match altogether,” Numba said.

“What is in the past is in the past, this is a different game, and we just have to go into this game with the right attitude so that we can get the three points.”

Zesco have 15 points and are thirteen points behind leaders Green Buffaloes after 10 and 12 games played respectively while Buildcon head into the derby with 18 points.

The champions also go into the derby battling to end a month-long winless drought since beating Kansanshi Dynamos 4-0 at home in Ndola on October 20 before collecting three draws and a defeat.
