2022 WCQ: Gyan is ungrateful and pretender - Grunsah

Ghanaian football administrator Alhaji Karim Grunsah has hit out at Asamoah Gyan over his comments about the recent match between Ghana and South Africa.

Gyan stated that the Black Stars’ match-winning penalty in their crucial 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana was ‘soft’ in a Group G game which was played in Cape Coast on November 14.

Senegalese match referee Maguette N’Diaye awarded a controversial penalty which was converted by Andre Ayew after Daniel Amartey went down under the challenge of Rushine De Reuck in the first-half at Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Ayew’s goal proved to be the difference on the night and Ghana advanced to the third, and final round of qualifying while Bafana’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup finals in Qatar ended.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) then filed a protest letter to Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) over Ndiaye’s conduct during the encounter.

Grunsah, who is the president of Ghana Premier League side King Faisal Babes, has slammed Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer Gyan.

“Asamoah Gyan is ungrateful and a pretender, he won’t even get the opportunity to become a ball boy, he should stop talking about the penalty against South Africa,” Grunsah said on Sports World Ghana.

FIFA is expected to issue a verdict on that appeal soon with South Africa hoping that football’s world governing body orders a replay between the Black Stars and Bafana.
