Zesco United striker Jesse Were says Sunday’s Copperbelt derby home date against Power Dynamos will be a massive test for them following their recent return to winning ways.
Power visit the defending FAZ Super League champions at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on the back of a five-match unbeaten run in which period they have won their last three games.
As for Zesco, they beat Buildcon 3-2 in their Ndola derby last Sunday to end a month-long drought in which period they drew three and lost one match.
Power are 10th on 16 points, just two points behind sixth positioned Zesco after13 and 11 games played respectively.
“It was important for us to get maximum points against Buildcon. Morale has been high in training this week and there is a positive energy in the camp,” Were said.
“People are focused on the game after we got the maximum 3 points over the weekend. Coming into Sunday’s game, it will be massive again to get the three points because we will be matching towards our goals.”
Meanwhile, both sides shared the spoils last season with Zesco winning 2-1 at Levy and Power getting a 1-0 home victory in the final leg in Kitwe.
Power captain and midfielder Godfrey Ngwenya who scored the lone goal in that last meeting in May is currently in hot form for the visitors on 7 goals.
Ngwenya has also been a vital cog in Power’s current revival under new coach Mwenya Chipepo who has guided them from bottom to mid-table since his appointment in early October winning four, drawing two and losing one.
“Power Dynamos is a good team with a good coach and good players. Their form was down but they are coming up and they have won three games in a row so it will be a very entertaining game,” Were said.
“But I know we will come to the party.”
