Junior Chipolopolo Zambia play Malawi in the 2021 COSAFA U17 Cup semifinals in a 10h00 kickoff on Tuesday morning in Maseru.
Unbeaten Zambia advanced from the group stage with a 2-0 win over host Lesotho on December 1 and a 1-0 victory over Estawini on December 4 to win Group A.
Malawi on the other hand finished second in Group B with a point after drawing 1-1 with Botswana on December 1 and losing 4-2 to pool winners Angola on December 5.
Angola will face Group B runners-up Eswatini in the second semifinal at 13h00.
“Our journey continues. So far so good but it is a completely different ball game (against Malawi),” Zambia coach George Chilufya said.
“I am sure they are going to be a very difficult opponent having watched us and seen how we play.
“I am sure we are going to have a very difficult game but we are ready for them.”
The spotlight will again fall on Zambia U17 striker Joseph Sabobo Banda who has scored all his sides’ three goals in the group stage.
However, the challenge awaiting Tuesday’s winners is that they will meet in the final on the same date in a 19h00 kickoff.
“Very difficult situation for football but what can we do? It is just important that we motivate the boys and they should just be ready for the two games,” Chilufya said.
