Zambia beat Malawi 3-1 to reach the 2021 COSAFA U17 Cup final in Maseru.
The final has been rescheduled from its Tuesday evening 19h00 kickoff to Wednesday morning kickoff at 09h00 after the tournament organisers reviewed the final knockout stage schedule.
Zambia will face Angola in the COSAFA U17 Cup final that will pit the tournament’s most prolific sides’.
Angola beat Eswatini 3-0 in Tuesday’s second semifinal.
“We are happy and our journey continues,” Zambia coach George Chiliufya said after his side shrugged off some stiff first-half resistance from Malawi in Tuesday’s semifinal.
All three goals came in the second half of the match that saw Joseph Sabobo Banda score a brace taking his tally to 5 goals to see him stay on course as main contender for the tournament’s Golden Boot.
Banda gave Zambia the lead in the 50th minute with a booming shot from the edge of the area that took a bounce on its way in before eluding Malawi goalkeeper Alex Dzimbiri.
Mathews Banda equaled his captain with a fine goal of his own with a breathtaking free-kick that he dispatched from the edge of the box.
But Malawi pulled one back in the 68th minute through Blessing Kanowa who capitalised on some poor communication between goalkeeper Eric Makungu and his defender to tap-in a loose ball.
Sabobo, though, was not done and completed his brace in the 87th minute when he out-sprinted Malawi defender Happy Mphepo to fire in the third goal.
Zambia will meet fellow unbeaten side Angola who have also scored 9 goals but conceded one and two goals respectively heading into the early morning final showdown.
