Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Kelechi Iheanacho is part of his plans for the current season.
The Nigeria international was the Foxes’ best player last season – scoring 19 goals in all competitions and he played a key role in helping the team clinch the FA Cup.
However, Iheanacho has been used mainly as a substitute thus far this term having scored just three goals for the former Premier League champions.
Zambia international Patson Daka and English marksman Jamie Vardy have been preferred ahead of the left-footed striker.
“I think we’ve said it before: he’s best in a two, that’s clear, that’s when he’s been really good,” Rodgers was quoted by Leicester Mercury.
“He’s training well, he’s a great professional, Kels, and he knows he’s going to feature over the course of this period at some point.”
The 25-year-old player scooped Leicester’s top-scorers prize with his wonder strike against Crystal Palace in April 2021 getting recognized as Leicester City Goal of the Season.
He will be hoping to start Leicester’s next two matches, which are against Italy’s SSC Napoli in the UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday and Newcastle United in a Premier League game on Sunday.
