Junior Chipolopolo Zambia coach George Chilufya says his team has a very bright future despite losing 2-1 to Angola on Tuesday morning in the 2021 COSAFA U17 Cup final in Maseru.
Zambia suffered their only tournament defeat to an Angola side that also came into the final with a one hundred percent record.
“I think going forward; we are looking into the future. We have a team that can compete at another level apart from the Under-17 and that is what we are looking forward to,” Chilufya said.
Luis Eusebio scored a brace to steer Angola to glory and scored his first in the 11th minute when he stomped-in the ball with a cheeky back-heel.
Marcel Zimba equalised in the 14th minute to see the two side’s goal 1-1 into half time of a tightly contested duel.
Both goalkeepers then stole the show after the break making some great saves as the game see-sawed and seemingly looked destined for post-match penalties.
However, Luis settled the contest in the 89th minute when he scored from another set-piece, this is a header, to seal Angola’s gold medal victory.
Meanwhile, consolation for Zambia saw striker Joseph Sabobo Banda win The Player of the Tournament award that comes with a one week long training camp at a LaLiga club.
Banda also finished as joint top scorer on 5 goals with Malawian Masambiro Kalua to share the Golden Boot award.
