The Tshwane derby between SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns will take centre stage in another busy weekend of action in the DStv Premiership.
The teams clashed just over two weeks and played out a cracking 2-2 draw, with SuperSport becoming the first team to score against Sundowns in the league this season.
In fact, Matsatsantsa came from two goals down to claim a share of the spoils and coach Kaitano Tembo will hope for more of the same fighting spirit from his charges when they host the Brazilians at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.
“I am encouraged by our performance [against Sundowns],” explained Tembo. “We threw more numbers upfront and created more opportunities. The second-half performance was fantastic. We showed character and came back to claim a point. For us to come back from two goals down and earn a point is encouraging. It will boost our confidence.”
Saturday also sees Orlando Pirates looking to claim a home win over TS Galaxy – who has lost all of their away matches so far this season – while Swallows FC, Baroka FC and Chippa United will all hope for much-needed wins when they welcome Marumo Gallants, Cape Town City and AmaZulu respectively.
Sunday’s opening clash is an intriguing derby between Durban teams Royal Am and Golden Arrows, before Maritzburg United attempt to snap a seven-game win drought when they host Stellenbosch FC.
There is also a scheduled clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United, but given that the former club has been forced to miss their last two fixtures (against City and Arrows) due to a severe outbreak of Covid-19 in their camp, it remains to be seen whether this match even goes ahead.
